At the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi, the presentation of the book written by Ignazio Del Punta and Maria Ludovica Rosati, published by Maria Pacini Fazzi.
The book deals with the various aspects of the silk industry in Lucca during its first centuries of development, between the late thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Lucca was the first city in the western world to achieve a production of luxury fabrics able to compete fully with traditional oriental fabrics.The book comprehensively illustrates the multifaceted Lucchese textile production, from the most humble "zendadi" to the precious drapes woven with gold threads that appear with increasing frequency in the inventories of princes and pontiffs since the end of the thirteenth century.
After the institutional greetings, the presentation of the book is entrusted to Valeria Bertolucci Pizzorusso, Accademia dei Lincei - University of Pisa and to Luca Molà, European University Institute.
